Rangers have renewed their interest in Hibs striker Florian Kamberi

Rangers have rekindled their interest in Florian Kamberi, and are understood to have approached Hibs with a view to renewing the previous arrangement between the two clubs that resulted in Ibrox midfielder Greg Docherty being loaned to the Capital club in exchange for the striker.

However, while Kamberi is open to a second stint with Steven Gerrard’s side, the 25-year-old is eyeing a permanent transfer from Hibs rather than another loan switch.

The Swiss-born hitman is currently training with Hibs at the club’s East Mains complex following his six-month loan to Rangers earlier in the year, but head coach Jack Ross cast doubt on the player’s long-term future at the club earlier this week, saying: “There’s continued dialogue to find a solution that suits both parties but at the moment, he’s training with the group.”

The former Grasshoppers forward angered Hibs supporters with his “dream move” comments after joining Rangers on loan in January, while Ross admitted the remarks had been “unusual” for a player still contracted to another team.

Kamberi has 12 months remaining on his Easter Road deal and has been the subject of two failed bids from Hull City, while a number of teams in the UK and Europe are understood to be monitoring the player’s situation.

Docherty moved to Easter Road at the end of January and impressed while on loan at the club. The 23-year-old former Hamilton Accies midfielder is currently training with Rangers and undertaking pre-season work and has two years left on his deal at Ibrox.
