The Englishman, who was previously assistant manager at the club under Tony Mowbary is understood to be one of new Hibs chief executive Leeann Dempster’s shortlisted candidates. Venus, 47, who has experience at the top level, working under Mowbary at Hibs, Celtic and West Brom, is understood to have managerial ambitions and is already well aware of what the job would entail.

Bookies have slashed his odds after a flurry of bets were placed on him being given the role.
