Triallists Maybury and Kerr will not be joining Hibs on tour

HibS manager Pat Fenlon has confirmed that trialist duo Mark Kerr and Alan Maybury will not join up with the Easter Road side in the Netherlands.

The pair, both currently free agents, trained with the Edinburgh club last week, with former Hearts defender Maybury given a 45-minute run-out against East Fife on Saturday. The Hibs manager is known to be keen on the one-time Irish internationalist, however financial uncertainty surrounding SPL clubs is hampering any potential move. Kerr, 30, did not feature in the weekend’s trip to Bayview, with Fenlon confirming that the player is continuing his pre-season training elsewhere in the coming days.

With Hibs departing for a nine-day tour of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany this morning, any interest in the experienced pair has been put on hold until at least 26 July. Fenlon said: “We asked Mark to play during the week, but the game was called off and he has gone elsewhere for a few days. He trained really well, Alan the same, they are great professionals, but at the moment we just don’t know where we are going to be with them. At the moment they won’t be coming over to Holland with us, although we might get a couple of trialists in while we are over there.”

Meanwhile, new Hibs goalkeeper Ben Williams believes the European tour is the perfect way for the team to gel before kicking off the season with a trip to Dundee United on August 5.

The former Manchester United trainee said: “It is definitely something you look forward to. It is great for the young lads and for the new boys. You learn the faces, you get to know the ins and outs of your team-mates’ game and their characters as well. It is always a good laugh getting away with the boys and when you combine that with hard work and a few games it is a real bonus to be getting this trip during pre-season.”
