Terry Butcher wants Hibs to move on from derby win

In a pulsating encounter at Easter Road on Thursday night, skipper Liam Craig’s dramatic late penalty gave the Leith side a deserved 2-1 victory, their first win over their city rivals this season.

While the green and white part of Edinburgh remains in celebration mode, the Hibs boss was trying to get his players focused on the trip to Tayside where the visitors have the chance to go to within two points of the fifth-placed home side.

“I said to the players to enjoy it a little but that they have to forget this game as quickly as possible because there is only a three-day turnaround before Dundee United,” said Butcher.

“As much as everyone wants to enjoy it, you have to forget about it because there is another game on Sunday.

“We are six behind Inverness and five behind Dundee United.

“We are looking get points up there to peg them back”

Butcher insists he is unconcerned by United’s recent and somewhat dramatic dip in form which has seen them lose their last three games.

The former Motherwell boss said: “I am not bothered about United winning or losing, it is always going to be about us as far as I am concerned.

“I think we have taken little steps all the time but we are not getting carried away.

“We are enjoying each other’s company, but enjoying winning as well which means everyone is together.”

Butcher can see the confidence flooding throughout his team who have won their last three games and are unbeaten in four.

He said: “We are on a really good run - the best run of the season I think - but we want to make it even better.

“We are in the top six, we want to stay there and we want to build on what we have achieved.

“The boys are enjoying their football, you can see that.

“We played some good football against Hearts, got some good balls in the box and had one or two chances.

“A win against United would be another step forward.”
