Susan Fairlie good prospect for Scots call-up

Hibernian Ladies manager Willie Kirk believes striker Susan Fairlie is on the fringes of a national call-up after watching her send his side into the semi-finals of the Scottish Women’s Premier League Cup.

Fairlie struck twice in a 3-2 win over former club Hamilton but the Hibees were pushed all the way by their SWPL rivals and extra-time was required.

Hibs were rocked on the eve of the match with goalkeeper Shannon Lynn joining Chelsea with immediate effect.

As a result, Jenna Fife made her first start of the season for the Easter Road girls. Her terrific debut included a first-half penalty save.

“It was a difficult match and as a team we didn’t quite play to our best,” said Kirk.

“Yet, we created 36 shots on the Hamilton goal so had we been more clinical we could’ve made it a lot easier for ourselves.”

Elsewhere, Spartans defeated Buchan 2-1 to secure a final-four slot. Spartans manager Debbi McCulloch said: “We could have scored a lot more than we did but the important factor is we are through to the next round.”

Sadly, Hutchison Vale were unable to make it trio of Edinburgh clubs into the last four after losing 3-0 to Forfar Farmington at Station Park.
