Quite simply, the visitors were better than us in most areas of the pitch. Graham Stack’s superb penalty save and our equaliser did give us something to cheer, but it was only ever going to delay the inevitable. Yet again we look to see some astute business in the transfer window to rescue a season gone wrong. Rod Petrie had better brace himself; this is going to cost him much more than he originally thought. The consequences of not investing in quality players now will prove much more expensive in the long term.

Part-time Jambo Ian Black unveiled a T-shirt at the end of the match declaring that he was going to ‘paint this place maroon’. Given the evidence we saw over 90 minutes, who at Hibs could have stopped him if he had decided to do just that?
