Scottish Cup final: How the players rated

THE Scotsman delivers its verdict on how the players performed on the big day

HIBERNIAN

Mark Brown No chance with first goal and the cruel deflection on the second took the ball just beyond his reach. Didn’t actually play at all badly but still lost five goals. 5

Pa Kujabi

At fault for Hearts’ first goal as he dallied on the line, playing Darren Barr onside, then booked for wild tackle on Suso Santana. Pull on jersey was Susocidal. 3

Paul Hanlon

When he got to the ball none looked safer for Hibs. Trouble is he didn’t appear in the right place at the right time to stop the goals. 4

James McPake

Took goal well. Unlucky with early headed attempt, and with deflection for Hearts’ second goal. Saved a certainty from Suso but has to take his share of the defensive blame. 5

Matt Doherty

Troubled by Andy Driver’s speed and was out of position at several crucial moments. Booking was one for the team but that’s no way to earn plaudits. 4

Lewis Stevenson

Tracked back and got forward in his usual energetic style, but had to go to left back when Kujabi was red carded and he competed there. 5

Tom Soares Some lovely close control early on and his cross for McPake’s goal was pretty much perfection. Outworked and outclassed as well by Ian Black, however. 4

Jorge Claros

Never got into the game and seemed to have frozen on the big day before he was mercifully hooked by manager Pat Fenlon. 3

Isaiah Osbourne

Weak clearing header contributed to loss of first goal and he was never a force in midfield, largely due to Ian Black controlling the game. 4

Leigh Griffiths Took hefty early dunt from Black but got up and played on in sterling fashion. Tried everything he knew up front but ended up dropping deep to help prevent a rout. 5

Garry O’Connor

His early penalty claim was dubious, but they’ve been given. Missed sitter on the half-hour was unforgivable. Energetic at times, but substitution inevitable. 4

SUBSTITUTES

Ivan Sproule

Was a mile better than Claros but that’s not saying much. 5

Eion Doyle

No service so made no headway against the composed Hearts defence. 4

George Francomb

Sent on to stop rout becoming a massacre. 4 Ratings by Martin Hannan

HEARTS

Jamie MacDonald

Didn’t look particularly composed when coming for the ball but wasn’t at fault for Hibs’ goal. Otherwise, he had little else to do during the rest of the afternoon. 7

Ryan McGowan

His persistence led directly to Barr’s opening goal and he threw himself into the danger area to get the fourth goal which finished this match as a contest. 7

Andy Webster Missed the vital cross at the near post for McPake’s goal but was otherwise a towering presence throughout. Calm and experienced, he looked a class act. 8

Marius Zaliukas

The Hearts skipper was composure personified, even on the few occasions when Hibs posed a threat. Completely snuffed out what little attacking threat Hibs posed. 8

Danny Grainger

Well-taken penalty for third goal, and was generally solid all afternoon, although he should have closed down the ball before it was crossed for Hibs’ goal. 7

Ian Black

Very lucky to get away without a booking for rugby tackling Leigh Griffiths, but was Hearts’ midfield lynchpin and the match’s dominant figure. My man of the match. 9

Darren Barr

Played with a real sense of urgency and physicality which typified the difference between the two sides. Also presented a decent aerial threat going forward. 7

Suso Santana

After a busy but ineffective first half he won penalty with some incisive, direct play and took a dive after shirt-tugging. Unlucky not to get a second when barged over by Griffiths. 7

Rudi Skacel

Proved that he’s the man for the big occasion with two top-quality goals. Didn’t do much but everything he touched counted, with his superbly controlled shot setting up Hearts’ fourth. 9

Andrew Driver

He was superb, constantly probing down the left wing, with his pace and close control he tormented Doherty and provided Hearts’ sharpest attacking threat all afternoon. 9

Stephen Elliott

Despite playing a part in the fourth goal, he struggled to make much of an impact and was comfortably the quietest of the Hearts attacking players. 6

SUBSTITUTES

Craig Beattie

Difficult to impress with the game already won and his team-mates determined to knock it square, but performed decently. 5

Mehdi Taouil

Displayed great trickery and provided some entertainment as the game wore down. 5

Scott Robinson

Made little impact. 5
