Rumour Mill: Celtic eye Joshua Brenet | Hearts keen on Newcastle striker | Rangers register Pena and Herrera

Celtic are one of six clubs monitoring Dutch international Joshua Brenet, Hearts are interested in signing Newcastle striker Tom Heardman on a season-long loan, and Mexican pair Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera will be available for Rangers’ Europa League opener after the pair were registered with Uefa.

Celtic eye Brenet

Celtic are looking into the possibility of signing PSV defender Joshua Brenet for a £3.5million fee. The 23-year-old is also on the radar of Watford, Fiorentina, Udinese and German sides Koln and Eintracht Frankfurt. Brenet, who plays on the right side of defence, has two caps for the Dutch national team. (De Telegraaf)

Hearts keen on Toon hitman

Hearts are interested in signing 21-year-old Newcastle United striker Tom Heardman on a season-long loan. Jambos boss Ian Cathro previously worked with the player during his time in England’s north east, and is keen on bringing him to Gorgie. Heardman has spent time on loan at Gateshead and Hartlepool, and recently signed a new contract at St James’ Park. (The Chronicle)

Rangers register Pena and Herrera

Avoiding any further complications, Eduardo Herrera and Carlos Pena will make their Rangers bow in the first-round qualifier against Progres Niederkorn after the Ibrox club included the Mexican pair in their Europa League squad. Deals for the duo are still to be completed, as they wait on work permits being rubber-stamped. (Scottish Sun)

Celtic to avoid July 12 clash

Celtic’s likely Champions League opener against Linfield
in Belfast will not be played on 12 July after early discussions involving the two clubs, Uefa and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI). The Scottish champions were drawn against either Linfield or La Fiorita of San Marino in the second qualifying round. It is a tie which Celtic should negotiate comfortably on the pitch but which they would have preferred to avoid because of potential complications off it. (The Scotsman)

Scobbie hits out at Brown

Tam Scobbie last night claimed he was forced out of St Johnstone by chairman Steve Brown amid an offer that included a 35 per cent wage cut – and thanked Dundee United for making him feel valued again. Scobbie hit out at his “embarrassing” treatment by Brown, having starred for the Perth outfit for five years which included some of the highlights of the club’s recent history. (The Scotsman)

• Dundee United have tied up midfielder Stewart Murdoch on a two-year contract extension. The 27-year-old also spent time playing right-back last season as United came within a game of making it back to the Premiership. (Daily Record)

Vice-captain Kerr agrees extension

Newly-appointed vice-captain Cammy Kerr has agreed a two-year contract extension with Dundee, keeping him at Dens Park until 2019. The young right-back enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, making 41 appearances after spending time in each of the previous two seasons on loan at Peterhead. (The Courier)

Fyvie leaves Hibs

Fraser Fyvie is on the lookout for a new club following his exit from Hibs. The 24-year-old midfielder was offered an extension, which he took time to consider before rejecting the terms on offer. But, after a change of heart, he went back to Hibs to accept their proposal. However, with several weeks having elapsed since the initial deal was put to him, he was informed that it was no longer on the table. (Evening News)
