Pat Fenlon only focused on Hibs despite Rangers demise dominating agenda

And although he agrees the demise of Rangers is bound to have a major impact on other  clubs, Fenlon believes the  Easter Road outfit are better placed than some to ride out the storm although financial reasons lay behind the decision not to renew the contract of his assistant Billy Brown. Asked for his thoughts on the five month-long saga which could end up with a far-reaching revision of the game in this country, the Hibs boss said: “To be truthful, I have not given it a lot of thought. I have a massive job here trying to restructure the whole place, there’s been a lot of changes at the training ground and with players.

“Billy and one or two other staff have gone so there’s been so much going on I’ve never

really sat down and thought, ‘how is this going to impact on the way the league will be or the quality of the league’.”

Despite the uncertainty,

Fenlon has managed to bring in four new players and hopes further arrivals are in the offing, with a striker now his main priority. He is happy with the backing he’s received from the Easter Road board and concedes there’s a tricky balancing job to be achieved in trying to drive the club forward given the financial backdrop.

He said: “It’s difficult for them [the directors] as well to say we have that to spend when we do not really know what we have coming in. But we have tried to work around that. There’s been a lot of players who have left the club so that has helped but it is difficult to be able to draw the line and say that’s what we have or that’s what we have not got until, I suppose, the final decision is made and people know where they stand.

“It was always going to be

difficult for every club, not just this club, but I think the good thing for us is the club is structured properly and maybe the impact of what is going on has a

major effect but perhaps not as

major an effect as at some other clubs.”
