‘No plans’ for Livingston to sign Derek Riordan

LIVINGSTON player/manager Mark Burchill insists there are no imminent plans to sign Derek Riordan despite confirming that the former Celtic and Hibs striker is training with the club.

The 32-year-old has been without a club since leaving fellow Championship side Alloa at the end of last season and has been at the troubled West Lothian outfit for the past two weeks.

Given the length of time that Riordan, who turned down a deal with Brechin City last October following a trial, has been unattached, the marksman is understandably well short of match fitness.

However, Burchill, who signed freed Inverness striker Ibra Sekajja on Friday, admits Riordan is using the facilities at the club to get himself in shape first and foremost.

Burchill said: “Derek has been in a couple of weeks having asked if he could come and train with us.

“We’ll keep an eye on him and see how it goes but he’s not someone that is going to come in and immediately play in the first team.

“He’s not played in a while and he’s probably about a month away from regaining match fitness.

“He knows that himself and we’re just really doing him a favour at the moment.”

Burchill has also been linked with experienced striker Jason Scotland after the 35-year-old was freed by Hamilton earlier this month.

“Burchill added: “Jason is one we’re considering but there are about four or five strikers we’re looking at.”
