Kevin Thomson set for Hibs deal

HIBERNIAN are close to re-signing Kevin Thomson, The Scotsman understands.

Club sources last night played down suggestions that the midfielder was on the verge of signing a two-year contract, but negotiations are at an advanced stage and Thomson at least looks set to agree terms for the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old, a former Hibs captain, has been training with his old club in recent weeks, having been released by Middlesbrough last month.

He first played for Hibs between 2003 and 2007 before leaving for Rangers. Thomson stayed at Ibrox for three years before moving on to the English Championship with Middlesbrough.

Hibs manager Pat Fenlon initially suggested there was almost no chance of signing Thomson as he had used up his budget for the rest of the season.

However, the club can expect some additional income now that they are through to a Scottish Cup semi-final against Falkirk, and a short-term deal which will put Thomson in the shop window may well be beneficial to both parties.
