STV are reporting that the 25-year-old right back, who is out of contract at Tannadice in the summer, is a target for Hibs boss Alan Stubbs, who is in need of defensive cover, and talks regarding a loan deal have taken place between the two clubs.

Hibs’ first-choice right back David Gray is currently recovering following surgery on a groin injury, while fellow defender Jordon Forster is still making his way back after an injury lay-off.

Left-sided defender Callum Booth has been filling in at right back for Hibs in recent weeks.

Watson, who has made 123 league appearances for United since 2006, has played 16 times for Jackie McNamara’s men this season.

However, the arrival of former Hearts defender Ryan McGowan could see Watson’s first-team opportunities reduced.
