Heartache for Hibs Ladies as Glasgow win Scottish Cup

Striker Laura Kennedy admits that Hibernian Ladies must learn from yesterday’s painful Henson Projects Scottish Cup final defeat if they are to challenge for honours again next season.

Scottish champions Glasgow City completed a league and cup double by running out comfortable 3-0 winners at Toryglen, Glasgow.

Willie Kirk’s Hibernian side had gone into the game confident of causing an upset, however they were on the back foot from very early on.

Lisa Evans was the architect of Hibs’ downfall scoring two and setting up the other for Christie Murray.

Kennedy commented: “We did well in stages, however we just couldn’t cope with the pace of the City wingers particularly Lisa Evans who was outstanding.

“We did have chances during the game, albeit none were clear-cut, however it wasn’t to be and City deserved their win.

“Before the game we talked about putting them under pressure early on to test their confidence levels after a couple of heavy defeats in Europe.

“However we never got the chance to do that and the early goal settled them down.

“I think they used the match to prove a point to a few people on the back of those defeats. At times the City wingers got in behind us too easily and we made it difficult for ourselves with poor defending.

“After the game Willie told the players to remember this feeling, to understand how much it hurts to lose a cup final so that they never lose another.”
