Griffiths named Scottish Cup player of the round

LEIGH Griffiths has been named William Hill Scottish Cup player of the round after his first senior hat-trick helped Hibernian to a 4-2 quarter-final victory at Kilmarnock.

The striker received 50 per cent of all votes cast on the official Scottish Cup facebook page, beating Gary Mackay-Steven of Dundee United (30 per cent), Blair Alston of Falkirk (16) and James Forrest of Celtic (4).

Griffiths received his award at Easter Road yesterday from captain James McPake, but was prevented from speaking to the media on the orders of Pat Fenlon. The Scotsman and other national newspapers have accordingly decided not to publish a photograph of the presentation ceremony.

Griffiths is by some distance the most popular member of the Hibs squad with fans, and when interviewed in the past has always been able to convey a positive message about the club.
