Henderson became the first Scot to play in Serie A since Graeme Souness starred for Sampdoria 33 ago when he played for Verona in the opening fixture of this season against Bologna.

But the 23-year-old, who has complained about being overlooked for Scotland, has not started a game since the start of September and hasn't featured at all since appearing as a sub against Inter Milan in November.

Now Serie B side Perugia want to take him on loan for the rest of the season in a bid to help their promotion campaign. They currently sit in eighth place in Italy's second tier and are under new management this week after Serse Cosmi took charge 16 years after his first spell as manager at the club

Perugia know about Henderson after he scored a stunning free kick against them in a Serie B clash last season. He played 23 games last season for Verona and helped them earn promotion.

But Henderson - who has also played for Bari and Rosenborg - has seen his opportunities limited this season under manager Ivan Juric and could relish the chance of moving to another club in Italy.
