Final countdown: Capital heroes No 13 - Franck Sauzee

THE Frenchman, nicknamed “Le God” by Hibernian fans, joined the club in February 1999 after an illustrious career in which he captained his country and won the Champions League with Marseille.

After relegation to the first division in season 1997-98, he captained the club back to the SPL under the helmsmanship of Alex McLeish, to the Scottish Cup final in 2001 and back on to the fields of European competition in season 2001-2002.

He became manager in December 2001 and, unfortunately, history will record that the only remarkable thing about his tenure was that it was so very short – just 69 days in which he won only one game in 15. His reputation as a player remains undimmed, though, and he will always be remembered for what he did best: exquisite passing and shooting underpinned by superlative skills.
