Crabbe eyes ‘best brag ever’

FORMER Hearts player Scott Crabbe says the winners of the Scottish Cup will be in control of the mother of all bragging rights, writes Darren Johnstone.

The retired winger was part of the Tynecastle side that racked up a 22-game unbeaten run against Hibs during the 80s and 90s – a statistic still chanted by Hearts fans today. Hibs like to remind their old foes of their 7-0 win on New Year’s Day in 1973 but Crabbe says these boasts will be blown away by success at Hampden tomorrow. He said: “Hearts have bragging rights for a lot of things, 22-games-in-a-row, 110-years since Hibs won the cup, and I think that’s where a lot of the fear comes from. Hibs have got 7-0, that’s a real hard one to take for the Hearts supporters but then you come back with the 22-in-a-row and all that.

“But with his one, this will eclipse all bragging rights, there is no comeback. If Hearts win the cup, they won’t be able to come back with anything and vice versa. Something likes the 7-0 game would be a drop in the ocean if Hibs were to win the cup, it would mean nothing.”
