Calderwood cranks up expectation level

HIBERNIAN manager Colin Calderwood has urged his players not to feel too satisfied by Saturday’s draw with Celtic – because he wants to build an expectation of positive results against the Old Firm in future.

The Easter Road side defied expectations with a spirited display in the 0-0 stalemate, just three days after a 4-1 Scottish Communities League Cup defeat at home to the Parkhead side.

The draw came just four weeks on from another promising performance in Glasgow, when Hibs frustrated Rangers for large spells before succumbing to a Kyle Lafferty goal. Calderwood said: “It’s easy to be positive when people think you’ve got nothing to gain. We’ve taken something, but we’ve got to show different characteristics when we play at home and be able to conjure up goals.

“[Saturday] was almost perfect. You could still gain three points and that becomes the perfect result. But I’m really pleased. I’m delighted with the development of the team and the control we were able to show.

“We can’t applaud ourselves too much, though. I want people to be disappointed when we can’t compete against teams and that’s exactly what happened on Wednesday night – we did not compete in the second half.

“[Saturday] was a display that showed we can certainly compete with them better than we have done before. And what I expect is to go to places like Parkhead and get something.”
