Jordon Forster a play-off injury concern for Hibs

Hibernian head coach Alan Stubbs is hopeful defender Jordon Forster will not be ruled out of the club’s promotion push after he picked up an ankle injury at the weekend.

The 21-year-old lasted just three minutes of the second-half against Falkirk before falling awkwardly following an aerial challenge with Liam Dick.

The youngster was clearly in pain as he left the pitch and his fitness will be a worry for the Easter Road outfit as they await the winners of the quarter-final play-off between Rangers and Queen of the South.

Forster had only last month returned to the team on a regular basis after missing three months with a broken bone in his foot but is a key performer should Stubbs opt for a three-man central defence.

Martin Boyle also sustained a knock in the 3-0 win over Falkirk but is not expected to be a concern for the play-off semi-final first leg on 20 May.

With the Hibs players due to return to training today, Stubbs is optimistic Forster will also be fit enough to feature.

He said: “We’ve got 18 days now. Martin’s is nothing too serious, I don’t think, but Jordon hurt his ankle and it may take a little bit longer. But, knowing Jordon, he’ll be desperate to get back for our next game and we’ll be hopeful that it’s nothing too serious.

“I think he’s just gone over on his ankle, so fingers crossed it’s not too bad.”

Meanwhile, Stubbs believes Boyle could have a major role to play in Hibs’ bid to return to the Premiership. The on-loan Dundee marksman has filled a right wing-back role for the Easter Road men in recent weeks and used his searing pace to open the scoring for Hibs against Falkirk at the weekend.

That is a quality Stubbs hopes the 22-year-old, who has scored in Hibs’ last two games, can make the most of during the play-offs. He added: “Martin has got himself into some really good positions when he’s played this season and, on other occasions, he’s not necessarily taken the opportunities. But he’ll certainly get the opportunities. His pace causes defences problems.”
