How will Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen and rivals be impacted by closed door games and 'home advantage'

An analysis of the the Premiership and Championship teams' home and away form

There is still uncertainty surrounding how the SPFL will look next season with league reconstruction discussions and doubts whether some clubs will be able to afford playing behind closed doors due to the lack of revenue that will bring in.

It is likely that when football does resume in Scotland it will be played without any fans for a period. That will bring with it some interest, such as the ‘home advantage’ aspect. Since the Bundesliga has restarted, 17 of the 35 matches have been won by the away side, while the home team have won on just eight occasions.

A study released in March found “that the commonly observed home advantage in sport is almost completely removed when spectators are not present”. We look at the points per game average from last season of the teams in the Premiership and Championship this coming campaign and the difference between them.
