Hibs have completed the signing of Jamie Murphy from Rangers.

As the Evening News reported earlier today, the transfer is a one-year loan deal that will turn permanent at the end of the 2020/21 campaign with Murphy staying on for another 12 months.

Hibs boss Jack Ross told the club’s website: “Jamie Murphy is a player of proven quality in the top-flight of Scottish football, who has also picked up great experience in England and with the national team along the way. He offers us another option out wide to complement the creative players we can already call upon.

“For me, it’s also apparent just how keen he is to play football and win games. That comes through loud and clear and I have no double he’ll be a real asset for us.”

Murphy added: “I’m delighted to have signed for Hibernian and I’m just looking forward to getting started.

“No-one had to sell the club to me and I’m fortunate to know a good few of the players so I’m sure it’ll be a straightforward transition for me.

“I’ve seen how well the team has started the season and I want to do my bit to make sure we can push on from here.”

The Murphy deal mirrors the one which saw Ross McCrorie move to Aberdeen after the Dons hijacked Hibs' bid to bring the versatile youngster to Easter Road.

Rangers don't wish to sell any of their first-team fringe players to other Scottish clubs and have them come back to haunt Steven Gerrard's men as they aim to stop Celtic's chase for 10-in-a-row. Loanees aren't able to play against their parent clubs under SPFL rules.

The 31-year-old has barely featured for the Ibrox club since sustaining a major knee injury in a game at Rugby Park in August 2018.

A regular fixture of Gerrard's side before then, he played just twice after returning from injury last term before making a loan switch to Burton Albion.

In England's League One, the Scottish international showed he still has plenty left in the tank, scoring seven goals in 10 games as he featured on both the left wing and up front.

This will represent the fourth signing of the summer for Ross after the additions of Alex Gogic, Drey Wright and Kevin Nisbet.
