Hibs chief Ron Gordon content to take his time in hunt for Leeann Dempster replacement

Hibs are said to be in no desperate rush to name a replacement for former chief executive Leeann Dempster, who officially parted company with the Leith club this evening.

The highly-regarded football administrator announced her resignation in November and since then club owner and chairman Ron Gordon has been working to identify her successor.

That appointment is not expected any time soon, though, with the US-based businessman prioritising making the right choice above any desire to make a quick decision.

It is understood that the process is well under way, but Gordon will not be rushed, content that he has enough people already on the books at the Easter Road who are capable of keeping things ticking over.

Dempster will be a tough act to follow, having joined the club from Motherwell in May 2014. Her first task was to pick up the pieces following a destabilising relegation, sacking the then manager Terry Butcher and bringing in Alan Stubbs.

In the years since, she has overseen the historic Scottish Cup triumph, regular runs into the later stages of the domestic knockout competitions, promotion back to the Premiership, European qualifiers and helped to generate a massive swell in season-ticket sales.

Despite the difficulties associated with the Covid pandemic, she leaves the club in good financial health, while Jack Ross’ team are able to boast of the club’s most successful start to a top-flight league campaign in two decades. They also have another major semi-final against St Johnstone in the Betfred Cup later this month to look forward to.
