Football in brief: Pat Fenlon | Radoslaw Cierzniak | Rangers

HIBERNIAN manager Pat Fenlon is running the rule over South African full-back Vaughan Miller as he eyes up further Easter Road reinforcements.

The 24-year-old is reportedly training at the capital club’s East Mains training complex as he bids to win a move to the SPL, having recently starred for Swedish side FC Vasby.

An immediate deal is not on the cards, with Hibs currently well served in defence, however a summer move could be a possibility if Fenlon is forced to rebuild his back-line.

Ryan McGivern is only on loan at easter Road from Manchester City, while Alan Maybury and Lewis Stevenson, playing at left-back at the moment, are out of contract at the end of the season.

Any exits could facilitate a move for Miller if he produces a strong showing during his trial period.

Cierzniak signs new deal at Tannadice

DUNDEE United goalkeeper Radoslaw Cierzniak has extended his contract with the Tannadice club until May 2015.

The 29-year-old Poland international has signed his second two-year deal with United after being an ever-present this season. Manager Jackie McNamara told the club’s website: “This extension is merited because Rado has shown that he is an excellent SPL goalkeeper. It can sometimes be difficult for a foreign player to come into a club and settle but he has done so superbly. He is a very good shot stopper and, in my time here, has shown some excellent aerial handling skills. It is a bonus for him to know his future is secure until at least May 2015.

Cierzniak added: “I enjoy playing for Dundee United very much and, having settled in the area, it is an easy decision for me to sign on for a further year.”

McCoist holds out hope for injured duo

RANGERS manager Ally McCoist hopes to have injured duo Lewis Macleod and Ross Perry back in action before the end of the season.

Promising youngster Macleod has been sidelined since the end of January after suffering knee ligament damage. He has been joined in the treatment room by Perry after the defender tore his hamstring two weeks ago.

McCoist told the club’s website: “The good news for everyone is that Lewis Macleod is coming along nicely.

“He’s got the brace off and when he’s doing a little bit of work in the gym he puts it back on again. That’s five weeks now and Ross Perry’s hamstring is also coming along.

“I don’t want to put any specific time on it But, I must admit I would be very, very pleased if we can get them back before the end of the season.”
