Alan Stubbs wants transfer window shut before season

HIBS head coach Alan Stubbs has called for transfer windows to shut before the beginning of the season as the Scott Allan saga took another twist yesterday with Celtic now eyeing a move for the midfielder.

Allan has been relentlessly pursued by Rangers for the past few weeks, the Ibrox club having had three bids rejected and been told by Hibs that they won’t sell to their biggest rivals in the race for the Championship title.

Stubbs said: “Our stance has been very clear from the outset. We made a statement and said we would not be doing business with Rangers.”

But Stubbs did offer his own solution to such distracting situations arising in the first place. He said: “I honestly do not think the window should be open when the season has started. It is strange that you’ve started your season, you have your squad in place but then you’re still vulnerable to other teams making bids for your players.

“There should be a cut off on the last Friday before the first league game kicks off. That takes away all this speculation and uncertainty around the situation. Ideally, I think you’d have a winter break with the window open and then it shuts before you start again.”

Stubbs added: “I thinks as a club we can hold our heads high with the way we have dealt with it.”
