Hibs Ladies’ star Murray amazed by massive crowd as USA beat Scots

Scotland Women’s football team were defeated 4-1 by USA in Jacksonville, Florida on Saturday; however for Hibs 
Ladies’ midfielder Joelle 
Murray, it was a career highlight.

The full-time professional USA side are the world’s top-ranked team, reigning Olympic champions and feature FIFA Women’s World Player of the Year Abby Warnbach.

Yet, the opportunity to play before a bumper crowd of 18,656 at EverBank Field was an experience that the young Scots relished. Murray said: “It was one of the most amazing and memorable experiences of my career. To play in front of nearly 19,000 spectators was simply incredible and I’m proud of every single one of my team-mates tonight.”

Kim Little celebrated her 75th cap for Scotland by pulling a goal back in the 54th minute, however Sydney Leroux put the icing on the cake for the hosts with a last-minute goal which allowed Glasgow-born coach, Tom Sermanni, to celebrate his first match in charge of the USA with victory.

The two nations play again on Wednesday evening (1am Thursday UK time) in the second part of their double-header in Nashville, Tennessee.
