Hibs Ladies reach Scottish Cup semis with stylish win

Hibernian LADIES breezed into the semi-finals of the 
Scottish Cup with a comfortable 6-1 victory over First 
Division side Queen’s Park at Lesser Hampden.

The Hibees were without a number of their regulars with boss Willie Kirk unable to call upon Liz Arnott, Mariel Kaney, Frankie Brown, Caroline Weir and Emma Brownlie.

Even without so many of his first team, Hibs had no trouble in defeating their lower league opponents and reaching the last four of the competition thanks to a hat-trick from Susan Farlie and single efforts from Kirsty Smith, Laura Kennedy and Kirsty McLaughlin in the game on Sunday.

Kirk commented: “The match panned out much as we 
expected. We dominated for long spells, worked hard but unfortunately allowed the tempo of the game to drop in the second half. It was all about getting through and we’ve achieved that goal. Queen’s Park are a good side and would be a fine addition to the SWPL if they were to win promotion.

“We are in the semi-finals now and are looking forward to the opportunity to try and get through to a third successive final.

Elsewhere, it was the end of the line for Hibernian Reserves as they bowed out of the competition with a heavy 6-1 defeat at the hands of Hamilton 
Academical.

The result was a little harsh on a young Hibs side that more than matched their Scottish Women’s Premier League counterparts for more than an hour before the Accies put the tie beyond the girls in green.

Hamilton opened the scoring after 30 minutes when Karen McInally netted on the counter-attack, however Hibs levelled moments later through a clinical finish from Christie Kerr. Accies, however, pulled clear in the second half.
