Hibs: Colin Calderwood keen for Sean O'Hanlon

Hibs latest signing Sean O'Hanlon today revealed he's been on the radar of Easter Road boss Colin Calderwood for years.

The former MK Dons defender became Calderwood's third signing of the summer following the capture of Ivan Sproule and Garry O'Connor.

But while the 28-year-old's name may be less familiar to Hibs supporters than those of Sproule and O'Connor, he is no stranger to Calderwood, the pair being able to list Swindon Town among their former clubs.

After putting his name to a two-year deal, the Liverpool-born stopper said: "Colin Calderwood says he has been chasing me for a few years, so it is great to be able to sign for a manager that has shown such a lot of interest in me.

"I'm very fortunate this opportunity came about, Hibs are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and it is a fantastic set-up."

Having started his career with Everton, O'Hanlon went on to skipper both Swindon and MK Dons and believes his experience can prove beneficial to a squad with an average age of little more than 22.

Although his primary objective will be to help tighten up a defence which was less than secure last season, O'Hanlon disclosed he's also hoping to add to the "goals for" tally. He said: "As an experienced player anything I can give to the younger lads I am going to do and I still want to improve - I want to lead from the front on match days.

"I'd like to think I am a bit of an all-rounder. I'm fairly strong in the air at set-plays, I like to get my head on corners or free-kicks.

"But first and foremost I'm ere to get clean sheets and if we do that then hopefully our strikers will do their job at the other end."

Admitting it will be unusual to be teaming up with a player who shares an almost identical surname, Hibs skipper Paul Hanlon, the former England Under-20 internationalist added: "There's not too many clubs who have two centre-backs with virtually the same surname. Hopefully we can form a formidable partnership."

Meanwhile, Hibs have announced tickets for their friendlies against Barnsley, Blackpool and Sunderland will go on sale from Monday with briefs for the opening SPL clash of the season, the visit of Celtic on July 23, available seven days later.

Further details regarding arrangements for season ticket holders are available on the club web-site.
