Heriot-Watt wary of trip to Peebles

Ahead of tomorrow’s first-round tie, University head coach Michael Renwick said: “I know from past experience that we never find it easy playing against them – it is a difficult place to win a game.”

Heriot-Watt are currently fifth in the top flight and are buoyant after winning their previous match 2-0 away to fourth-place Civil Service Strollers. Reflecting on that win earlier this month, he said: “I thought we dominated the game, certainly for the opening 45 minutes, and took a well-deserved lead before half-time. Strollers came into it in the second half but we finished on top and showed we’re a good team. The only problem is that we have not had a chance to build on that win for the past two weeks with games called off. The boys have trained hard and are raring to go.

“Peebles have picked up a bit with the introduction of a new manager [Jason Girdwood] and it will be competitive, as it always is when teams from different divisions meet. We need to have the correct attitude but we are going there with confidence. This is our last cup competition of the season and we are looking to try and go as far as we possibly can as so far it has been a disappointing season for us in the various cups.”

Renwick’s only injury concern is Paul Ewing although Norwegian striker Henrik Dahle looks certain to start. Peebles have Greg Young and John Manson back in contention, but Craig Edgar and Paul Hunter are  injury concerns.
