SPL Fanzone: Hearts

Had it not been for a second penalty miss in two weeks, Hearts would have secured a deserved draw at Celtic Park.

A point would have given everyone around the club a lift, given the ongoing issues surrounding wages, but it was not to be. That said, the players deserve some credit for putting in a competitive performance despite all that is going on.

The squad clearout, which was long overdue, has begun with Balogh and Elliot the first to leave. There will be few tears shed for either player and the fact that they were both still there, despite getting very little recent first-team action, is probably an indicator that wages were too high.

It would be tempting to say that Saturday’s game is massive for the club, but the reality is that, until the issues behind the scenes are sorted out, the club will continue to lurch from one crisis to another.
