Rangers liquidation: Hearts fans say no to ‘newco’

Hearts supporters want their club to vote against a Rangers newco being allowed to start in the SPL.

The Tynecastle faithful have been casting their votes on the issue in an online poll on popular fans’ forum hmfckickback.co.uk.

And as of yesterday, an overwhelming 98 per cent of the 800-plus fans who voted said their club should reject a newco bid for entry to the SPL.

A similar number of fans expressed the view that the newco Rangers should have to start again in Scottish football’s bottom rung.

Hearts are yet to officially make their stance clear regarding the Rangers’ situation. Club director Sergejus Fedotovas, however, said last month that the Scottish football authorities should focus more on learning lessons from the Ibrox crisis than punishing the club.

Speaking at the time, he said: “Rangers’ situation has shown certain problems and many clubs see punishing Rangers as the most important objective. Scottish football should not be narrow-minded and should not put all focus on the punishment, but address the roots of the problem.”

Hibs have already dropped a strong hint that they will vote against a newco being allowed into the SPL. Their fans have also backed that stance in hefty numbers on website polls, while Aberdeen and St Johnstone have suggested they will go the same way.
