Rangers agree fee with Hearts for Jason Holt

Holt, who featured in the Ibrox side’s 1-0 defeat against Burnley at Ibrox last night, is a free agent after his contract at Tynecastle ran out.

It is understood that a fee in the region of £65,000 has been agreed with the Tynecastle club, paving the way for Holt to make the move west.

The 22-year-old, who broke into the Hearts squad on the last day of the 2010/11 season, spent the second half of last season on loan at Sheffield United, where he scored five goals in 15 appearances.

Despite being linked with both the Blades and Hibs, Holt has been training with Rangers for the past week.

He would become Rangers boss Mark Warburton’s seventh signing of the summer after James Tavernier, Martyn Waghorn, Wes Foderingham, Andy Halliday, Danny Wilson and Rob Kiernan all agreed deals..

After the friendly defeat at Ibrox last night, Warburton said: “Jason has been in with us and I wanted to see him in a competitive environment against a good team to see how he fared with it.

“I was delighted with Jason, who fits in well with the squad, so hopefully, we can take that forward. I focus on the team and let the powers-that-be deal with that.”

The Rangers manager would not be drawn on continued speculation that he is about to make a move for Hibs midfielder Scott Allan.

Warburton, whose side face Hibs in the Petrofac Training Cup at Easter Road on Saturday, said: “Scott Allan is a Hibernian player and I think it’s really disrespectful for any manager to talk about another team’s player, if I’m honest with you.

“So, from my point of view, we focus on what we have here and see what happens in the coming days.”

Hibs have also refused to comment on the speculation.
