Raith recruit Hearts duo in loan swoop

Raith Rovers have swooped to secure the loan signings of Hearts duo Jason Thomson and Johnny Stewart.

The pair signed deals until the end of the season and could go straight into John McGlynn’s squad for today’s encounter with Morton at Stark’s Park.

Thomson spent the first half of this season enjoying regular SPL football with Raith’s Fife rivals Dunfermline. After playing 14 games for the Pars, the 24-year-old succumbed to a groin injury and returned to Edinburgh in January.

Having recovered from that issue, Hearts are keen to see the full-back playing regularly again.

Stewart, 22, has played twice for Hearts’ top team and enjoyed a spell on loan with Dundee in 2011, but the midfielder has not played a competitive senior match in almost a year. McGlynn said: “Jason has great experience from the time spent playing for Dunfermline and he has SPL experience with Hearts. That could be key to keeping us in this division.

“Johnny is obviously that little bit younger, but I remember him coming through the youth ranks when I was at the club and I believe he’ll be a good addition between now and the end of the season.”
