Lennon looks for cup response

ST MIRREN manager Danny Lennon was full of admiration for the performance on Saturday of John Sutton, who netted Hearts’ fifth and was linked with a return to Paisley last week, and he called for his Saints side to seize the initiative against Hamilton Accies in tomorrow night’s cup replay.

The Buddies are without a win in four matches, since the defeat of SPL champions Rangers, and travel to New Douglas Park for their William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round replay.

Lennon said: “It’s going to be a difficult game. We looked more of a threat with the system we went with (at Hearts).

“We got a lot of good opportunities from wider areas, we were getting bodies into the box, which is where I feel we’ve been lacking. But you need that end product.

“Hamilton will bring that same type of challenge for us. We’ve got to have bigger balls to handle that amount of possession.”

He added: “It’s never nice losing five and it was a great opportunity for us but one sorely missed.

“I’ve got to give a lot of credit to Hearts and the way they came out of the traps – I only saw it hit the back of the net as I was coming out of the tunnel.

“Skacel was the main difference – three quality strikes.”
