Jason Holt aims to be fit for League Cup semi-final
The midfield playmaker gets an operation today on a broken metatarsal, and if his recovery schedule goes to plan, he will be able to return to action in the match, which is on Sunday 2 February at Easter Road.
“That’s the game that the physio department have targeted for me to be back,” he said yesterday. “It’s a massive game for the club and the players, so if I can be back for that I’ll be delighted. That game falls in their estimation of eight to ten weeks.”

Hide AdHolt, who is on crutches at the moment, sustained the injury in training. He explained that, although the break could have healed on its own, having an operation was guaranteed to protect against further damage.
“I went up to chest the ball, landed – it was a perfect landing, not awkward – and I just felt a crunch. I knew straight away it was a bad one. There was no-one near me – it was just one of these things. The physio said it’s quite a freak. Like I said, there was no-one near me. It just went and there’s not much you can do. It’s a broken fifth metatarsal. There were two options: rest it and let it heal itself, or get the operation. That rules out it happening again, so the obvious choice was to get the operation.
“You just wait until after the operation, then you get a better look at how quickly you recover. I’m in the crutches and the boot for a while, so there’s not much I can do. Just upper-body programmes, try and get a bit bigger.”
Hearts won last season’s semi-final, also against Caley Thistle at Easter Road, so Holt is especially keen to play his part in a match which could see his team reach a major final for the third season in succession. “It was a great game for us. I think everyone had written us off already, but we proved everyone wrong. The Hearts fans showed up in numbers and it was a great game for the club. We went on to the final – obviously we were disappointed there, but it was a great occasion for the club.”
