Hero Craig Beattie ready to discuss future at Hearts

HEARTS’ Scottish Cup hero Craig Beattie revealed today that he is ready and willing to discuss his future with the Tynecastle club and said he may yet stay beyond the end of the season.

Beattie’s penalty in the last minute of yesterday’s semi-final secured a 2-1 victory over his former club Celtic and secured an all-Edinburgh final against Hibs next month. The striker has revitalised his career in just two months in Edinburgh and admitted he would be happy to talk to Hearts about a long-term contract.

The 28-year-old signed a deal in February which expires at the end of the season but has become an instant idol amongst Hearts supporters. He remains undefeated in six appearances to date for the club – five wins and a draw – scoring three goals in the process.

“I’ve been given a platform to play and to further my career,” Beattie told the Evening News. “It might well be that I stay here but I’m not looking to tee anything up, or asking someone to come and watch me. Nothing like that. I think it would be disrespectful to people here. There’s nothing in the background, all I’m concentrating on is game to game. If I don’t do that, I think I’ll come unstuck.

“I’ve done well since I’ve been here and I’ve enjoyed my time here. The club, potentially, is a monstrous club. There are facilities and an infrastructure here, and obviously there have been a few problems which I’m not going to go into now. Of course I would talk to Hearts. They’ve been good with me and, likewise, I’ve done well for them. I’d be more than happy to talk to anybody that wants to talk.”
