Osman Sow is still working his way back to fitness from a thigh tear that has kept him sidelined since October’s draw at Easter Road, while Soufian El Hassnaoui is recovering from an ankle knock he sustained in last month’s win over Rangers.

On a positive note, Dale Carrick is making progress from his hamstring tear and is likely to be available for the visit of Alan Stubbs’ side.

Hearts welcome their city rivals on Saturday and even though the transfer window will only have been open a matter of days, Neilson admits he could have a new forward at his disposal for the clash.

Neilson said: “Will we have a new striker in for the derby? You never know. We are in the process of trying to get people in and we’ve made contact with a few players to see what their thoughts are.

“If we do, then great, if we don’t, then I’m quite happy to wait until later in the month.

“You need to make sure it’s the right person that comes in. If it’s the right person on the first of January, then that’s great. If it’s the right person on the last day of January, then so be it.

“We’ve got our eye on three or four guys and hopefully we’ll get something tied up.”
