But Lennon realises the 26-year-old, a former team-mate at Gretna, cannot be expected to be at his best after being out since November.

Lennon told St Mirren’s official website: “He’s been a long time out and he’s a very good player. I’ve known the lad since he was a young boy at Gretna and he’s a player that’s always impressed me.

“He’s wholehearted, he’s got a lovely left foot on him, he defends well.

“There’s going to be mistakes with the length of period he’s been out but we’ll sit down and sit with Danny and his representatives.”
