The Hungarian, who led Hearts to third in the SPL during his 18 months at the club, has reportedly been invited to submit a formal application after enquiring about the job at the Highland side.

Laszlo is currently out of work after resigning as coach of the Lithuanian national team in September.

Former Jags midfielder Barry Wilson has also thrown his hat into the ring, with some bookmakers rating him a 2/1 shot for the job.

Wilson, currently in charge of Highland League side Wick Academy, said: “I am flattered to be linked with the job but I am well aware that some big-name managers will also be interested in the position.

“I would never close the door on Inverness and if the club was interested in speaking to me then I would be more than happy to speak to them, whether that be in a managerial or coaching capacity.”

Former Kilmarnock manager Kenny Shiels has also been suggested as a possible replacement for Terry Butcher at the Caledonian Stadium.

Butcher and his assistant Maurice Malpas left Thistle for Hibernian this week after prolonged negotiations between the clubs.
