Christophe Berra has high hopes for a Hearts revival

FORMER Hearts captain Christophe Berra hopes Tynecastle club owner Valdimir Romanov sells up to a “wealthy Arab or a billionaire” after the recent pay traumas for the Gorgie side’s playing staff that he himself experienced at a club he retains great enthusiasm for.

I had that a wee bit for two or three days [not being paid] but maybe not as bad as the boys there just now,” said the Scotland defender.

“It’s not something I can say that much about because it’s down to the owners of Hearts. They must have their reasons for it. Sometimes in foreign countries that is how they do business, whereas that’s not the case in Britain. It’s a difficult culture perhaps.

‘It was a shame for the players at Hearts but they got paid and, hopefully, it won’t happen again.

“Hopefully, a wealthy Arab or a billionaire comes over and buys Hearts. Football is a dog eat dog business so you never know what is round the corner.

“I keep in touch with a few of the boys still at Hearts and they are never that far from my thoughts.

“I always watch the highlights of the SPL to keep up to date with what’s going on. I get a bit of stick for it from the Wolves boys if we’re watching Sky Sports.

“I’ve got a lot of fond memories from the years I spent at Hearts. I always had a great feeling every time I walked out at Tynecastle because it has a unique atmosphere.

“It was a very happy period of my career there but I had to move on. Like any player, I want to play in the best league and right now that is the English Premier League.”
