Captaincy a ‘compliment’ for Robinson by captaincy

SCOTT ROBINSON today spoke of the “massive compliment” he received when he was handed the Hearts captaincy for the second half of last week’s 2-0 defeat to Dundee United.

With Marius Zaliukas substituted at half time due to injury, 19-year-old midfielder Robinson was handed the armband ahead of more senior players. Not only was it the first time that Robinson had donned the armband, it was also a historic event in Hearts’ modern-day history as Robinson became the youngest player to captain the club since Nick Ross back in 1882.

“I was delighted to be handed the armband. We were 1-0 down and we were wanting to get back in the game so I was focused but it was still a great honour for me,” said Robinson.

“I was surprised when the manager handed me the armband. We had experienced players, like Rudi Skacel at 32, so when the manager shouted my name I was surprised but you just do it, and I went out and led the team.

“It was a massive compliment. The gaffer has shown a lot of faith in me this season and now I have to go and repay him.”
