The right-back, who can also play in midfield and up front, is one of the club’s most promising young players but was only contracted through the end of this coming season. The new deal will now run until the summer of 2017.

He’s the third youth academy graduate to pen a new deal this pre-season, following Sam Nicholson and Gary Oliver in committing their immediate future to the club.

Paterson has played 60 first-team games for Hearts and ended last season on a high by picking up the SPFL Young Player of the Month award for April.

He scored four goals in the club’s last four games to take his tally for the season to 11.

Hearts have also announced that their season ticket sales have breached the 11,000 mark, meaning that they’ve sold around 1,000 since announcing the 10,000th sale four days ago.
