Hearts resume Covid 19 testing of players and staff after positive results

Hearts will test players and staff for Covid 19 throughout this week after two positive results from their first-team squad.

As First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced a new stricter lockdown in Scotland, officials at Tynecastle Park decided to resume testing.

Winger Josh Ginnelly and another unconfirmed player have returned positive Covid results since Christmas and been required to isolate.

Hearts tested their squad bi-weekly from last August but stopped in October as there was no requirement for teams outwith the Premiership to do so.

They opted to return to regular testing for this week hoping to ensure no-one else in their bio-secure bubble is carrying the virus.

Players and staff at Riccarton are now preparing for a possible Scottish Cup second-round tie against either Camelon or Brora Rangers on Saturday.

That depends on the Camelon-Brora tie going ahead this Wednesday. It was moved to Westfield Park in Denny with Camelon’s pitch still frozen.
