Hearts have completed their fourth summer signing with the capture of English winger Elliott Frear on a one-year contract.
The 29-year-old put pen to paper after taking time to mull over the offer from Tynecastle Park, which was made earlier this month.
He spent two weeks training at Riccarton and returned home to Exeter before deciding to commit to another stint in Scotland.
Frear enjoyed two years at Motherwell between 2017 and 2019 and is a pacey wide player who should add more creativity to the Hearts team.
He is manager Robbie Neilson’s fourth signing after goalkeeper Craig Gordon and another winger, Jordan Roberts, arrived on permanent deals, while keeper Ross Stewart joined on loan from Livingston.
Frear’s contract at Forest Green Rovers expired at the end of last season, rendering him a free agent. Previously on the books at Exeter City and Salisbury City, he is best known north of the Border for his time at Fir Park.
“I spoke to Robbie over the summer and it was a no-brainer. I know exactly what the club’s all about, it’s a massive club and I’m delighted to be here,” Frear told the Hearts website.
“I’ve played at Tynecastle a few times with Motherwell. I remember it being quite daunting to play here, the crowd are right on you and I remember thinking when I walked out the tunnel that it would be amazing to play for a club like this.
“I’m absolutely delighted I’ve got the chance to represent this club and hopefully there’s a good season to come.
“The gaffer told me to come in and play my normal game. I’ll look to get it out wide, beat a few people and into the box. We’ve got good players here so there’s no reason why we can’t do well this year.”
