Gary Locke to go on trial as a Fringe player

GARY Locke will become a Fringe player in a bid to raise funds for cash-strapped Hearts.

The Tynecastle manager has proved he is game for a laugh after agreeing to go on trial – of a non-footballing variety – in the name of comedy.

Locke will be defender-turned-defendant in This Is Your Trial, a show at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival by football-daft stand-up comedian David Allison.

Profits from the show will be donated to Hearts, who are in adminstration, with a bumper crowd expected to see the Jambos legend swap the dugout for the dock.

Allison told Hearts’ official website: “As a huge fan of football, I’m really chuffed this can happen. If we can entertain the players, supporters and staff at the club while raising a bit of money, everyone’s a winner.

“Gary has been a real sport in volunteering to take part and fans can be assured of a fun evening.

“I’m from Bradford and I know a lot of people who know Gary from his time as a player with [Bradford] City and I’m sure it is going to be a fun evening.”

The Trial of Gary Locke and Heart of Midlothian FC, takes place at 8.30pm on Monday, 5 August in the Gorgie Suite at Tynecastle Stadium, with ticket for the shows available from the Hearts’ ticket office.
