Hearts were murder to watch last season with no pace or width. Now they’ve found both

Scott Wilson, Hearts’ stadium announcer, has asked me on a date. After I’d tweeted about Hall & Oates he suggested we could find a pub - if any will still exist next month - to debate the finer points of the blue-eyed soul duo who enjoyed much chart action in the 1970s and 80s.

You’re on, I said, but then I watched the Jambos kick off the Championship with six goals. Hibs fans who thought they’d be encountering rusty and ragged capital rivals at Hampden on Halloween can ditch the complacency right now. Hearts were murder to watch last season with no pace or width. Now they’ve found both.

So if the Scottish Cup semi doesn’t go the way I’d prefer, and I suspect the conversation might drift from the tunesome blow-dried little-and-large double-act to some kind of Andy Halliday redemption nightmare, I might have to tell Scott: I can’t go for that (no can do).
