Hearts: We must win says Polish star

POLISH midfielder Adrian Mrowiec today declared the Edinburgh derby a must-win fixture for Hearts in order to atone for yesterday's 3-0 home defeat by Kilmarnock.

Goals by Frazer Wright, Conor Sammon and Alexei Eremenko secured a much-needed victory for the Ayrshire club and Mrowiec stressed Hearts must respond to the result at Easter Road on Sunday.

The 26-year-old explained that the defensive uncertainty evident yesterday would be addressed at Riccarton this week, and that the outcome must be three points against Hibs.

"Yesterday was a very bad game," said Mrowiec. "We played better for 15 or 20 mintues in the second half but after two mistakes it finished 3-0. The next game is very important for us, it's the derby.

"We have to talk about what went wrong. The gaffer said to everybody that it's very important not to make mistakes.

"Everybody wanted to win this game, I don't know what happened. We spoke before the game about the other SPL results on Saturday but we did not do it.

"Next is the derby, then we play Celtic at home. We will work hard this week and we have to win on Sunday."

Jim Jefferies, the Hearts manager, concurred with Mrowiec's view that a trip across Edinburgh is the perfect platform for Hearts to redeem themselves.

"We don't like it," he said of yesterday's scoreline. "Hopefully it will let the players realise that, in this league, you take nothing for granted.

"You need to play the way we did last week (against St Mirren] every week or you'll get done.

"Easter Road is the perfect game to get everybody lifted. A win there will go to help the suffering and disappointment. We lost to a team who passed the ball better than us and had more urgency than us. You get done but it's how you respond.

"Our players will be feeling sore but I think there will be a determination to get it out of their system next week."
