It is understood that Watt is keen to return to Scotland to be closer to his family, with Charlton giving the green light for the deal to go through.

Watt, who signed for Celtic from Airdrie in 2011, scored a memorable winner against Barcelona as the Parkhead side recorded a 2-1 victory in the Champions League in November 2012.

But the arrival of Teemu Pukki and Amido Balde limited Watt’s first team opportunities and he joined Belgian outfit Lierse on loan on in 2013.

Despite scoring ten goals in 16 appearances, Watt struggled to get on with manager Stanley Menzo, and he returned to Celtic at the end of the season.

He returned to Belgium on a permanent basis, joining Standard Liege on a five-year deal for a reported fee of £1.2 million in July 2014.

However, the 22-year-old striker joined Charlton in January 2016 after failing to make an impact at the Stade Maurice Dufrasne.

Watt has scored eight goals in 36 appearances for the Addicks but spent time on loan at Cardiff City and Blackburn Rovers during the latter half of the 2015/16 season.
