Ferguson, who was subject to two transfer bids from Dundee United last month, has made four first-team appearances for the Diamonds so far and Hearts were keen to have a closer look.

The shot-stopper spent three days working with Neil Alexander, who doubles up as the club’s goalkeeping coach as well as first choice keeper.

Airdrie manager Eddie Wolecki Black said: “Rohan is recognised now as one of the hottest young prospects in the game. He sparkled in our recent 1-0 Scottish Cup defeat by Dundee United and relished the experience of training with Hearts. We will need to see what develops in the months to come.”
