Strachan has had to adapt his squad with keepers Scott Bain and Allan McGregor withdrawing. Robert Snodgrass, Barry Bannan, Shaun Maloney and Andrew Robertson will also be unavailable due to their involvement in the English Championship play-off final.

Hamilton played only five times for Hearts in the season just ended but is the established No.1 for Scotland Under-21s. His outstanding display against France Under-21 in Angers in March caught Strachan’s eye and he has now earned an earlier-than-expected promotion to the senior squad.

Hamilton, Fox and Kingsley are all uncapped at full international level and will be hoping to make their debuts.

Scotland face Italy at the Ta’Qali Stadium in Malta on Sunday May 29. On Saturday June 4, they play France at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Metz. The friendlies are part of Strachan’s preparation for World Cup qualifiers starting in the autumn.
