Gorgie stars lead way for unpaid Pars

Jim Jefferies has revealed that Dunfermline’s first-team players are still waiting for a percentage of October’s wages but believes they should look no further than his old club, Hearts, in coping with the worrying delay.

The Pars were forced to only part pay last month’s salaries, with all of the squad believed to have received around 60 per cent, amid concerns for the future of the club because of an £81,000 bill due
to Her Majesty’s Revenue and
Customs.

The Fifers have until Monday to stump up £50,000 and a further two days to find another £31,000 or risk administration.

However, Jefferies is convinced the off-field worries will not affect his side, who should follow the example of Hearts last season, when the Tynecastle side went on an unbeaten run of five wins and a draw after not receiving November’s money.

He said: “It’s a hard thing for everybody. But everyone’s been paid well over half of their wages. They’re just waiting for the
balance to come through.

“Hearts have gone months with problems but they showed an example of how to deal with it when they went on to the pitch last season. They won five out of six games. It was a cash-flow problem at that point and they were waiting for their wages, and they used it as something to pull everyone together. They got on with it and showed the right example.”
